The Woes of a People Enslaved by Alcohol: A review of Francis Nyamnjoh’s: the Travail of Dieudonné
GEF's Outlook, George Esunge Fominyen
The characters of The Travail of Dieudonné readily accept their unfortunate fate. Theirs is a world of misery in which insultingly rich and corrupt officials reap of an undemocratic government in which poor governance thrives, while the masses abandon themselves to sexual perversity and self-pity with the help of alcohol. In many ways, it is Cameroon seen through a glass of beer and Cameroonians locked inside a bottle of lager.

Financial Times/ arena
Botswana is Africa’s greatest success story and also its largest aid recipient, with aid per capita four times larger than the continent average. In Mozambique, aid has helped support sustained growth of nearly 5 per cent annually over 15 years, and helped support rapid growth in Uganda, Tanzania, and several other countries, alongside helping secure the peace in Liberia.

South Africa: ANC has a gender issue
Times South Africa, Lindiwe Mazibuko
Let us be clear about what some of the root causes of female oppression in our society are.
# The belief still held by many men that unprotected sexual encounters with multiple partners is their right;
# The failure of many men to take responsibility for the children who result from their behaviour in this regard;
# The extent to which these sexual encounters drive the spread of HIV-Aids — and why it is women who carry the burden of this disease; and
# The violence against women which results from failed relationships.

....when normal decency becomes "breaking news" ..... (BH)
